Leaders and culture

Leaders operate through personal, team and organizational leadership. It’s not just about managing people; it’s also about shaping the organizational system as a whole.

 

The Leading Culture Snapshot helps leaders first to become more self-aware of the way their behaviors and practices are shaping culture in their own area of influence and to develop a focused plan of action for shaping culture proactively

 

Culture and organizational systems lens

The Leading Culture Snapshot™ uniquely looks at leadership through a culture and organizational systems lens. It's ideal for use in leadership development programs, mergers and acquisitions, business transformations, culture change initiatives, and for executive coaching, helping leaders gain insights into their team and organizational leadership role.

What's assessed?

The Leading Culture Snapshot provides feedback to leaders in four areas:

  • The Explorer Index examines the ways that the leader demonstrates and supports agility and learning.
  • The Conductor Index looks at the ways that the leader influences direction, discipline, performance and risk.
  • The Steward Index explores the ways that the leader demonstrates collaboration, engagement, openness and trust.
  • The Exemplar Index examines the ways that the leader role models the organization’s value proposition (e.g. customer experience, innovation, reliability or operational excellence) or primary value driver (e.g. collaboration, performance, or learning). The client selects the factor most important for assessment.

The leader's report

Each report includes a Leading Culture Profile, as illustrated above, that provides an overall view of the Leading Culture Snapshot results. Ideally the profile is balanced on the four indices with scores that represent frequency of demonstration of the behaviors and practices required to build a strong foundation culture. The scores are compared with those who provided input, such as the leader’s peers, boss and others.

To rapidly spotlight strengths and areas for improvement, charts and tables show the results for the 11 culture dimensions that make up the 360° survey (see the sample report below). This includes comparison tables of self, boss, staff and others’ responses and a summary of high and low frequency behaviors and practices.

Research-based

The survey is founded on constructs based on the work of social scientists in the area of national and organizational culture, including Geert Hofstede and Fons Tromenpaars, as well as The GLOBE Study of 62 Societies by House, Hanges and others. The GLOBE Study involved approximately 17, 000 managers from 951 organizations operating in 62 societies with a research team of 170 scholars and research scientists from the same 62 countries, making it suitable for organizations, both large and small.

Action planning

Nothing is worse than good intentions and no action. We have also developed the Leading Culture Handbook™ to support leaders in crafting robust development and action strategies. We have scrubbed our tools of academic and consultant terms to bring leaders resources that are in the language of day-to-day business.

Introductory webinar

We offer an introductory Leading Culture Snapshot webinar that describes the tool, its design and how to use it. An overview of the tool, it will provide additional background information and examples of its use within leadership development programs and in executive coaching.
