Culture Cards

The organizational practices and behaviors in the Culture Cards provide a common language that helps to hold meaningful conversations about culture. The Culture Card deck is made up of 44 cards that describe different culture patterns. Culture patterns are the practices and behaviors that emerge by examining the interplay between and within dimensions of culture. Each card deck also contains a 24 page mini reference guide. The reference guide provides valuable background information as well as a simple, proven approach for using the cards. Our Culture By Design Workshop provides more information about culture patterns and how to use the Culture Cards. Culture Cards are currently available in English.

The Culture Cards are recommended for:

·         Identifying an organization’s ‘aspired to’ culture

·         Exploring an organization’s current culture

·         Revealing values, beliefs and assumptions

·         Examining the role of leaders in shaping organization culture

·         Comparing the cultures of mergers, acquisitions and other combining organizations

Culture Card Posters

These 24 x 30 inch posters are used with the Culture Cards to capture the results of the card sort activity. One poster provides a scoring chart for up to 10 individuals or groups. The second poster displays the Culture-Strategy Fit model of culture dimensions and patterns that is used to highlight the patterns selected in the card sort activity. Instructions are included in the Culture Card mini-reference guide. The posters are available in English.

Fourteen color images denote different contexts and dynamics that are metaphors for organizational cultures. Use these images with small or large groups to hold powerful and engaging conversations about culture. Each Culture Images order includes instruction sheets with simple, detailed steps describing how to use the images in 7 different meeting and workshop situations. The instruction sheets can be copied and handed out to participants.

Instructions are provided for use of the Culture Images in the following situations:

·         Icebreaker activities for a group meeting

·         Launch a project team for a major change initiative

·         Explore the role of leaders in shaping culture in leadership development programs

·         Explore group or team dynamics

·         Identify the culture needed for the future
