Why Should Leaders Pay Attention To Culture?
Culture is often discounted as a soft and fuzzy HR concept that is tangentially linked to the performance of the organization. In reality, this is far from the truth. There are countless examples of behaviors and practices (observable manifestations of culture) that have a direct effect on the bottom-line and performance. For example, think of the amount of time, effort and energy expended trying to acquire information in an organization that believes openness and transparency is a risk that needs to be carefully managed. What about the organization that has a low tolerance for risk and where mistakes are not accepted resulting in avoidance of accountability and blaming? Of course, there is also the organization that creates strong functional or business unit identities resulting in 'silos' that cause duplication of effort, failure to adopt lessons learned and best practices, and fragmented service experienced by customers.
In each of these cases, the values, beliefs and assumptions that have resulted in these behaviors and practices are deeply embedded in the organization's way of working and for good reason. They have played a significant role in the organization's past success and have come to be recognized as the 'correct way' to do things around here. However, over time these strengths have become weaknesses that have a direct negative impact on productivity and operating costs. In most cases, they are also interfering with the ability to execute strategy and achieve goals. The good news is that organization culture can be changed and leaders are in a unique position to make this happen.
Who Should Attend
The Leading Culture course is designed for leaders who want to learn how to shape the culture of their organization to support their goals and execution of their strategy. Its focus is on strategies and techniques that leaders can use to achieve sustainable culture change. It is an intensive, hands-on learning experience that provides practical approaches and tools, supported by theory and ongoing, leading-edge research. Using the results of a Culture Health Check (mini-survey) and Leading Culture 360 Feedback Survey, leaders develop a culture change strategy for their team, department or organization.
